This was a week with no webinar but the work doesn’t stop for those who want to make their good better and their better best!
So we have been asked several times during the week to listen to The strangest secret by Earl Nightintale (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5x-KjBME_E). You will find below a transcription-summary I made from the 1956 spoken word record which sold over one million -copies and received the first Gold Record for the spoken word. Earl reveals to us in this audio the secret of success, his best definition of success being a progressive realization of a worthy ideal. He starts by announcing that only 5 men out of 100 become rich or financially independent by the age of 65 years old while they all believed at 25 year old they were going to become successful. What made this happen? It basically comes down to few things: goals, knowing why you get up and go to work in the morning, not conforming, and “Believe and Succeed” based on the secret of success every wise man, philosopher, the bible, agrees on: “We become what we think about”! Thus like a farmer planting seeds, the land will returned what has been planted whether you planted poison or goodness.
Then the question becomes: why people don’t use their mind? According to Earl it is because the mind is free therefore people don’t put value on it although these free things like minds, souls, bodies, hopes, dreams, our loves of family, children, country, etc are the ones that are irreplaceable in comparison to what wealth can buy that is replaceable. The human mind can do any type of job you assign it to do, universities proved most of us operates at 10% of our abilities. So plant your goal in your mind, what it is that you want! What you got to do is to plant that seed, care for it and work steadily towards your goal and it will become reality! There is no way that it can not because it is based on a law, and like the other laws of nature they always work like the law of gravity that is inflexible! Think about your goal in a relaxed positive way, see yourself in your mind’s eyes as having already achieved this goal and see yourself doing the things you will be doing once you reached that goal! You are the sum total of your own thoughts. You are where you are because it is exactly where you want to be! You are guided by your mind!
Earl then continues by inviting us to put the secret to a practical 30 day test to prove its return. Based on the natural law from Newton (for every action there is an equal or opposite reaction), we can achieve nothing without paying the price therefore the result of this 30 day test will be in equal proportion to the degree of effort. What is that price? Well for Earl it is first understanding emotionally and intellectually we literally become what we think about, we must control our thoughts in order to control our lives. Second it is realizing that our limitations are self-imposed and that the opportunities today are enormous beyond belief! Third it is using all our courage to force to think positively on our own problem to set a definite and clearly define goal for ourselves and let our marvelous mind think about our goals from all different angles possible, to let our imagination speculate freely upon many different possible solutions. To refuse to believe that there are any circumstances sufficiently strong to defeat us in our accomplishment of our purpose. To act promptly and decisively when our course is clear and to be constantly aware of the fact that we are at this moment standing in the middle of our own acres of diamond. Fourth, save at least 10% of every dollar we earn.
Here are the important points in the price each of us must pay to achieve the wonderful life that can be ours: 1- We become what we think about. 2- Imagination. 3- Courage, concentrate on our goals everyday. 4- Save 10% of our earnings. 5- Actions because ideas are worthless unless we act on them.
For his 30 day test, Earl requests to write on a card what it is we want more than anything else, making sure it is a single goal and clearly defined. Carry it with us so we can look at it several times a day. Think about it in a cheerful positive way each morning when we get up and before to get to bed at night, remembering we must become what we think about.
Then comes probably the most difficult part because it is about the formation of a new habit. But once formed it will follow us probably the rest of our lives. We must stop thinking about what we fear and take control of our mind for 30 days. Each day for these 30 days, we must do more than what we have to do: in addition to maintaining a positive outlook, give of ourselves more that we ever gave before. Don’t concern ourselves too much how we are going to achieve our goal. Leave that completely to a power greater than ourselves. All we have to do is know where we are going, the answers will come to us of their own accord and at the right time!
Remember these words and keep them constantly before us during this month of our test:
- Ask and it shall be given unto you
Seek and ye shall find
Knock and it shall be opened onto you
For everyone that asketh, receiveth
And he that seeketh, findeth
And to him that knocked, it shall be opened
It is as marvelous and as simple as that but difficult to understand all we need is a purpose and faith. Do it as we never did it before, for 30 days, Earl says, without thinking about receiving anything in return and we will be amazed of the difference it will make in our life! And if we kept our goal before us every day, we will wonder in marvel of this new life we found! Dorothea Brande talks about it in her book Wake up and Live. Her entire philosophy is reduced to the words “Act at though it is impossible to fail”.
She made her test for 30 days so make your own one. Make up your mind and have persistence, another word for faith. If you should fail during your first 30 days feeling overwhelmed by negative thoughts then you have to start over again. Gradually your new habit will form until you find yourself in that wonderful minority to whom virtually nothing is impossible. Don’t forget the card, it is vitally important as you begin this new way of living; on one side of the card write your goal, on the other side write the words we have quoted earlier (*).
Nothing great was ever accomplished without inspiration. Seek that during these crucial first 30 days your own inspiration is kept to the peak and above all don’t worry. Worry brings fear and fear is crippling. The only thing that can cause you to worry during your test is trying to do it all on yourself. Know that all you have to do is hold your goal before you, everything else will take care of itself. Remember also to keep calm and cheerful, don’t let pity things bother you and get you off course. Play often this recording, keep reminding yourself of what you must do to form this new habit, gather your whole family around.
The only way to earn money is by providing people with services or products which are needed or useful, we exchange our time our products and services with the other men’s money. Therefore the law is that our financial return will be in direct proportion to our service. Now success is not the result of making money, making money is the result of success and success is in direct proportion to our service. Most people have this one backwards! It’s like standing in front of a stove, ask for heat then put the wood! Likewise we have to be in service first before we can expect money! Don’t concern yourself with money, be in service, work, dream, create, do this and you will find there is no limit to prosperity and abundance will come to you! Prosperity is always found upon the law of mutual exchange and the person who contributes to prosperity must prosper in return, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. As you go daily through your 30 day test, remember that your success will always be measured by the quality and quantity of service you render and money is the yardstick for measuring the service. No man can enrich himself unless he enriches others. There is no exceptions to a law. This is the price you must pay for what you want. If you believe you can enrich yourself by deluding others, you can end by only deluding yourself. It may take some time but as surely as you breath you will get back what you put out. Don’t ever make the mistake of thinking you can avoid this, it is impossible.
6 steps that will help you realize success: 1- set yourself a definite goal. 2- quit running yourself down. 3- Stop thinking of all the reasons why you can not be successful and instead think about all the reasons why you can. 4- place your attitude back to your childhood and try to discover when you got first the idea you could not be successful (if that’s the way you have been thinking). 5- change the image you have of yourself by writing out a description of the person you would like to be. 6- act the part of the successful person you have decided to become.
Make your 30 day test and repeat it, then repeat it again and each time it will become more a part of you until you wonder how you could have ever lived any other way! Live this new way and the floodgates of abundance will open and pour over you more riches than you have ever dreamed existed! Money? Yes lots of it but more importantly you will have peace, living calm, cheerful and successful lives.
Start today, you have nothing to loose but you have a whole life to win!!
I truly LOVE this post… Seriously! You’ve put a LOT of thought into it, and – even though we are going through the same training – hearing and doing the same things, I found myself taking notes from your blog. Thank you for sharing your insights with us!
